[M. kobus, M. x soulangeana], cv. (Gardiner, Jim. Magnolias: A Gardener's Guide, p. 250, 2000). '…crossed by August Kehr of Hendersonville, North Carolina. The white cup-shaped flowers with a subtle hint of lilac are 12.5-15.0 cm (5-6 in.) wide. They are of particular interest for their frost hardiness, as the open flowers have withstood at least six degrees of frost.' =R11-17 (M. kobus cv. Norman Gould x M. x soulangeana cv. Lennei) [Magnolia Society]
(R11-17) – Pale purple and white flower. I have not seen it bloom yet. The foliage reminds me a very heavy textured Mag. Kobus. The stems are extremely stocky (maybe tetraploid???). Main feature is that the flowers are not damaged by slightly below freezing temperatures! [McCracken]
